Shaker Tansu Wing Thing
Cherry and cherry veneers, birdseye maple, padauk, poplar, frosted glass; 39 1/2" l x 15" d x 80" h
My old friend and longtime curator Anne Majusiak asked me to contribute to a show celebrating the history of Vermont studio craft at the Bennington Museum. As I thought about my piece, I considered some of the forms that I admire: the tansu chest, for its pleasing assemblage of shapes and volumes; shaker work, for its refined simplicity; and curving things, because, well, I like curving things. Throwing caution to the wind, I combined them all in a single cabinet.
