Alexander’s Bedroom Furniture
Maple, acrylic paint
A few years back I made a very fanciful set of beds for Alex (see Alexander’s Bunk Beds). Alex’s mom now wanted a dresser/bookcase and desk, for her young lad had attained the unenviable age at which homework and other drudgeries are regularly assigned. While we wanted to use motifs from the bed -- natural maple, interesting curves, splashes of color -- more literal copies would be too much of a good thing in the smallish bedroom. I was also thinking forward to a time when Alex might want furniture that was not so obviously child-inspired. The result was a fun and whimsical suite that should serve him for many years.
